Who am I & Why am I Here?
My name is Michael but I go by either Mike or MJ. I’m an African-American male who grew up in a small town. I survived the odds of being trapped in a world that’s surrounded by drugs, alcohol, and violence; plus just about any other negative thing one could think of.
I graduated high school and my participation in sports allowed me to receive a full Athletic Scholarship to a fairly large University. I lived on campus all four years; which is an experience I would highly recommend for any young adult considering college. After earning my degree, I returned to my home state where my young adult life would unfold and take shape. After a couple of life changing events, I decided to move out West.
I grew up fairly close to New York City; which was pretty much my second home. The fast-pace and bright lights of NYC heavily influenced my life. Maybe one of these days I’ll go into more detail about that that so make sure you SUBSCRIBE.
Being 3,000+ miles away from friends and family can be depressing at times, and I do miss the hustler mentality of NYC. But I will say Southern California is one of those versatile areas that offers both slow and fast pace, plus everything in between. Not to mention every time the sun shines bright on a scorching hot day in the middle of December, I’m reminded that I’d much rather enjoy SoCal’s laid back lifestyle in the sun, than deal with winter storms and shoveling snow.
“I started blogging because I was in need of a blank space to vent…”
I’ve always had a creative mind but when ideas and random thoughts come up, finding the right person to talk to sometimes is a challenge. As a kid, I always favored Creative Writing and as I got older I started to realize that writing brought me peace.
So like most creatives I started a blog; and in today’s world where sharing and connecting is a part of everyday life, I was also looking for Social Media outlets where I could feel comfortable and confident publishing things my way.
I still use Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook like the rest of the world, but those popular social media sites can be overstimulating at times. My blog started out as a space for me to just write, decompress, and express what was on my mind. It was for my personal use only. Since then, it has evolved into so much more and The Social Introvert was born.
Since reading is becoming a lost art in a society that has an attention span of about 8 seconds, I decided to refocus my energy on writing and sharing content that allows me to create, motivate, and inspire others.
At the end of the day I know some will like my content, and some won’t. Some will find me interesting, while others may think I’m boring…but that’s the joy I get from writing. You never know who your words may touch and the positive impact it may have on another person’s life…
