March Madness 2019

After watching the 1st and 2nd rounds of March Madness this past weekend, there’s one thing I know, the future for the NBA looks bright.

Here is a quick list of players to look out for heading into the 2019 NBA Draft.

JA MORANT Murray State, PG

Height: 6’3″

Weight: 175 lbs

Age: 19

Scouting Report ⇒ Crafty guard that can do it all. Can play off the ball but dominates with the ball in his hands. Often takes difficult shots, but a knockdown shooter. Not afraid of clutch moments. Can defend either guard position, vision like Magic Johnson, and flare like Chris Paul.

NBA Comparison: Chris Paul

Height: 6″1″

Weight: 185 lbs

Age: 21

Scouting Report A true point guard. Makes solid decisions in the open floor and gets everyone involved. Not very athletic but a can get off his own shot and plays at his own pace. Great court vision, sees the entire floor, high basketball IQ. A leader/coach on the floor. Absorbs contact when driving the lane. A pass-first point guard.

NBA Comparison: Kyle Lowry

Height: 6″5″

Weight: 195 lbs

Age: 19

Scouting Report A wiry wing player with exceptional ball handling skills. Prefers to drive but can also shoot it. Decisionmaking is questionable at times but will get better with experience and maturity. Will need to get stronger to make the jump into the pros, but can hold his own. Does more for his team than what shows on the stat sheet. Very energetic and provides the Wolverines with a spark when needed.

NBA Comparison: D’Angelo Russell

Brandon Clarke - Gonzaga

Weight: 215 lbs

Age: 22

Scouting Report ⇒ Play with tenacity, hustles, runs the floor, and finishes in traffic. Absorbs contact inside the paint. Solid footwork. Offensive rebounder with a quick second jump. Will need to work on ball-handling and range. Plays above the rim.

NBA Comparison: Amar’e Stoudemire

Coby White - UNC.jpg

COBY WHITE North Carolina, PG

Height: 6’5″

Weight: 185 lbs

Age: 19

Scouting Report ⇒ Deep range. Can shoot the three off the dribble or in catch and shoot situations. Excellent ball-handling skills and an exceptional passer. Playmaker. Can create his own shot and get to the rim at will.

NBA Comparison: Damian Lillard

Zion-Williamson - Duke

Height: 6’7″

Weight: 284 lbs

Age: 18

Scouting Report ⇒ The YouTube sensation has been compared to a young Charles Barkley; some even have gone as far as saying he’s the next LeBron James. His size and athleticism make him a matchup nightmare. With a body that is NBA ready, he often showed flashes of greatness; while other times his maturity reminds us he’s just 18 years old. Rebounds with tenacity on both ends of the floor. Owns the post but can also step out and shoot it. Needs to improve FT shooting in order to be a force at the next level as he will be fouled often. Has unbelievable vision and ball-handling skills for a guy his size. Whether he’s a true leader or self-absorbed is yet to be determined.

NBA Comparison: Larry Johnson
