March Madness

After watching the 1st and 2nd rounds of March Madness this past weekend, there’s one thing I know, the future for the NBA looks bright.

Here is a quick look at some of the top prospects heading into the 2019 NBA Draft.

pg – Murray State

Ja Morant

Morant, 19, is a 6’3″ 175 lb. crafty guard that can do it all. He can play off the ball but a better playmaker with the ball in his hands. He takes difficult shots, but a clutch knockdown shooter. Not afraid of big moments, can defend both guard positions, and has uncanny court vision.

NBA Comparison: Allen Iverson

pg – michigan State

Cassius Winston

Winston, 21, is a 6’1″ 185 lb. true point guard. Makes solid decisions in the open floor and gets everyone involved. Not very athletic but a can get off his own shot and plays at his own pace. Great court vision and sees the entire floor. Posses a high basketball IQ, making him a great leader/coach on the floor. Absorbs contact when driving the lane. A pass-first point guard.

NBA Comparison: Kyle Lowry

sg – michigan

Jordan Poole

Poole, 19, is a 6’4″ 195 lb. wiry wing player with exceptional ball handling skills. Prefers to drive but can also shoot it. Decision-making is questionable at times but will get better with experience and maturity. Will need to get stronger to make the jump into the pros, but can hold his own. Does more for his team than what shows on the stat sheet. Very energetic and provides the a spark when needed.

NBA Comparison: D’Angelo Russell

sF – gonzaga

Brandon Clarke

Clark, 22, is a 6’8″ 215 lb. small forward that plays with tenacity, hustles, runs the floor, and finishes in traffic. Absorbs contact inside the paint. Solid footwork. Offensive rebounder with a quick second jump. Will need to work on ball-handling and shooting range, but plays above the rim.

NBA Comparison: Amar’e Stoudemire

pg – north carolina

Coby White

White, 19, is a 6’5″ 185 lb. combo guard that can shoot the three off the dribble or in catch and shoot situations. Excellent ball-handling skills and an exceptional passer. Playmaker. Can create his own shot and get to the rim at will.

NBA Comparison: Damian Lillard

pf – duke

Zion Williamson

Zion, 18, is a 6’7″ 284 lb. YouTube sensation that has been compared to a young Charles Barkley. Some even have gone as far as saying he’s the next LeBron James. His size and athleticism make him a matchup nightmare. With a body that is NBA ready, he often shows flashes of greatness; while other times his maturity reminds us he’s just 18 years old. Rebounds with tenacity on both ends of the floor. Owns the post but can also step out and shoot it. Needs to improve FT shooting in order to be a force at the next level. Has unbelievable vision and ball-handling skills for a guy his size. Whether he’s a true leader or self-absorbed is yet to be determined.

NBA Comparison: Larry Johnson
