I was originally going to post a Zombie Apocalypse Survival Guide, but then I realize that post would take way too long for me to write. Maybe I’ll make that a topic for a podcast episode, but for now, let just keep things simple.
I clearly have been watching way too many movies and tv shows that revolve around the notion of a zombie apocalypse but you have to admit, with all these shows and movies giving us the blueprint on survival, in my opinion, it almost seems blasphemous not to be ready, ya know, just in case.
So just for fun, here are some of my mental notes and how I’m preparing for a Zombie Apocolypse:
First thing I would do is plan an Exit Strategy.
I would ask myself questions like,
Where would I go?
How would I get there?
What’s my Plan “B” if I’m unable to evacuate?
Am I prepare to defend my house, if an outbreak happens in the middle of the night?
These are all random questions I ask myself after watching these crazy movies and shows.
I also make it my business to know the locations of the closest: Costco, Sams Club, Target, Wal-mart, Best Buy, and the local supermarket. Not only do places like these carry food and water, but they also carry other valuable household items.
To maximize your looting I’d suggest building an alliance. Your alliance should be composed of people you trust and people that trust you. This could be family members, friends, colleagues, coworkers, peers, etc. you name it.
Split up Into Teams
Once you’ve identified your allies, split up into teams.
I’ll explain why later.
Doesn’t matter how many you have in each group, just come up with 2-3 groups. If your numbers are low, don’t worry, group task will just have to be completed by individuals.
Don’t Ignore Early Signs
This is the most important step and critical to you getting an advantage.
While everyone is still in awe trying to figure out exactly what the hell is going on, assemble your groups and immediately head to your closest Wholesale store. You know, stores like Costco, BJs, Sam’s Club, etc. If these types of stores aren’t near you, then a Wal-mart Superstore or Target will do.
The goal is to get to the Wholesale store before the news actually settles in; but in a world where EVERYONE owns a mobile device, new news becomes old news pretty fast.
My advice, always be prepared for the “What if…?.”
